What Is Personal Transformation?

What is personal transformation?

Have you heard the term Personal Transformation and thought "Wow! That sounds great, but what is it and how will I know when I've transformed?" If so, you're not alone.

Personal Transformation is an ambiguous term that seemingly gets tossed around quite frivolously in the world of self- development, and yet it is so specifically vague that no one really seems to know what "it" is.

So what is a personal transformation? Is it a feeling, an experience or a belief? Perhaps it's a new way of thinking, living or being. Maybe it's a state of becoming...but becoming what exactly, or who?

To begin to examine what exactly personal transformation is, here is one definition:

Personal transformation is a dynamic, uniquely individualized process of expanding consciousness whereby individuals become critically aware of old and new self-views and choose to integrate these views into a new self-definition.

Here's my definition: Powerful positive change.

Simple and yet still vague, because change is going to mean something different to everyone. And although it may not seem tangible, it is certainly measurable, because part of the process is to become more self-aware. For example, you'll know when you've lost 20 lbs, you're feeling more confident than insecure, your interpersonal relationships improve, and you're more successful at work.

Some experts say that long-term change is a slow incremental process that takes time. And while that might be true for some people, it isn't always the case. Through the use of techniques like hypnosis and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programing), I have witnessed breakthroughs in people in as little as an hour or even a few minutes.

Hypnosis and NLP are useful in breaking negative patterns of thought and behavior and replacing them with new more empowering thoughts, emotions, physical feelings, and behaviors leading to change more quickly and easily.

While most people want a personal transformation, there are some who are resistant to change. Now, you might find yourself wondering "Why would anyone not want to change if it will improve their life for the better?"

According to Grigori Raiport MD. a former Soviet sports psychologist, in his book Red Gold there are only 3 reasons why people won't change:

  1. Fear of the unknown

  2. Fear of losing identity

  3. Fear of suffering

For many people, staying in their comfort zone is easier than taking a leap of faith. If they evolve too much they might outgrow their partner, or they don't want to set their standards too high and be disappointed. There are simply too many "What if" variables that prevent some people from taking the required action.

Raiport suggests there are 2 kinds of factors that affect change in a person.

  1. Forces outside one's self

  2. Forces either psychological or physiological from within

Some external stimuli that could automatically generate change in a person night be getting a new job or promotion, moving or relocating, or changing mates.

Some internal stimuli that might also generate a transformation could be a severe illness, a trip abroad, loss of a loved one, or bankruptcy. Although positive internal change is generated more easily at a subconscious level, if you can generate compelling reasons for change, you can generate it consciously as well.

If you want to create change within yourself and don't have direct access to a hypnotherapist or NLP Practitioner, here is a proven system created by psychologist and researcher Michael Pantalon to take anyone from resistant to motivated in 7 minutes or less just by asking yourself 6 simple questions.

Instant Influence

  1. Why might you want to change

  2. On a scale of 1-10 how ready are you to change now?

  3. Why didn't you choose a lower number?

  4. Imagine you've already changed, what will the positive outcomes be?

  5. Why are those outcomes so important to you?

  6. What's the next step for you to take if any?

Now that you have a clearer picture of what personal transformation is, are you willing to do what's necessary to create one for yourself?
